I just need to verbalize my excitement. Yesterday we took our PFT for Army LA NG OCS Class 48A/48. About 100 of us applied for slots this summer, roughly 70 people got slots. Of that 70, 10 of us got accelerated slots. Accelerated OCS will be in South Dakota ~5000ft elevation for 9 weeks of brute punishment from what I understand. A few of my class peers are doubting me because I am just an E-3 but they haven't factored in my actual training thus far and my preparation for OCS compared to theirs. On the flip side, some of my peers are looking for me to kick some tail.
I leave around June 1st, so that gives me about 2 weeks until I get some. Hopefully some of you reading this have been OCS Candidates before or have good knowledge to relay to me, I can certainly use some solid advice.

Don't worry you are still my fiance. OCS= Officer Candidate School Some of the ways for individuals to commission in the Army(first rank will be Second Lieutenant) to be officers(think Lieutenants, Captains, Majors, Colonels, etc) include: ROTC, OCS, and Direct commission. ROTC = 4 year program that is almost always low stress, learn a good bit of book knowledge, a little hands on experience at the 4 week LDAC(assession). Direc Commission = enlisted personnel with a lot of time in who show vast mastery of a particular job field OCS = you must go through basic training, and your job school if Guard like me. It's 95% high stress, 99% practical application and experience. OCS traditional = 2 weeks in Kansas, then your 1 weekend per month drill for about 12 months, then 2 more weeks in Washington State. OCS Accelerated = 9 weeks in South Dakota From my ROTC experiences, you learn a good bit of book knowledge to get your gold bar, but you get very little stress and practical application. ROTC is cool for some people and that's great for them, but it's definately not for me. I got out of ROTC and enlisted Infantry and now am going OCS Accelerated because even though I value my sleep I feel it's 10x more important to be as well trained as possible for when I am responsible for 50+ soldiers lives. As for the product of this punishment, I will earn my being an Army Officer. It's just a tad bit important to me . My current commander wants me to stay Infantry which is pretty boutit-boutit, but we will see how things pan out as there are numerous fields that I can slot such as Military Intelligence, Aviation, Armor, Artillery, Quartermaster, etc. Once I get slotted a particular branch/job, I will go to that school for anywhere between 4 and 18 months. From then on I will be an Infantry Officer, Blackhawk pilot, or whatever.
